Flag Day Spotlight: Honoring Service and the Journey of Dr. Bryan Raya
Every year on June 14, Americans celebrate Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. It’s a day to reflect on our national identity, unity, and the values the flag represents—freedom, sacrifice, and service.
For Dr. Bryan Raya, founder of DBR Bookkeeping, Flag Day carries a deeply personal meaning.
Before becoming a small business advocate and bookkeeping expert, Dr. Raya served his country as a U.S. Army Bandsman from 2005 to 2013. As a trombone player and conductor, he used music to uplift and inspire, both in times of celebration and hardship. His military journey took him around the world, including assignments in South Korea, Alabama, and Texas, with his most significant deployment being with the 25th Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During his time in uniform, Dr. Raya didn’t just perform for troops—he played for presidents. He’s had the honor of performing for President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, and countless other dignitaries and high-ranking officials. His musical leadership served as a bridge between cultures and a source of morale for soldiers stationed far from home.
Although Dr. Raya has since transitioned from military life to entrepreneurship, the discipline, precision, and passion he developed in the Army continue to guide his mission. His background brings a unique perspective to his work with small business owners—especially service-based entrepreneurs who are driven by purpose and committed to doing things the right way.
Today, Dr. Bryan Raya helps others find stability and freedom in their business finances. But at the heart of it all is a lifelong commitment to service—whether it’s through music, mentorship, or money management.
This Flag Day, we honor the journey of veterans like Dr. Raya, who have continued to serve their communities in new and meaningful ways long after their time in uniform. The flag represents a shared history, and for Dr. Raya, it also represents the deep responsibility to continue leading with excellence, integrity, and heart.
